I don't, read my post closely, I was kidding. It is impossible to predict 100 years from now. Although if they do make breakthroughs I think it could possibly be all or nothing...clinical immortality. But the difficulties entailed are vast.

Would make it easier but it doesn't change the energy required to make such a move through...

It could well be...however...a damn sight more efficient than rocketry...

Well the immortality I speak of would be an end to senescence...now that would be nice Of course you could still be shot or get cancer or die of disease.

I suppose it will also require an energy source with a low environmental footprint even if space elevators are available. Until we solve the more general energy problem this wouldn't hlp environmentally at all.

I think some of us alive today may see such technology. I only wish there weren't so many immediate obstacles to overcome first. I can't see an end to senescence within the next 20 years and even 30 seems like a long shot without a lot of lucky technological breakthroughs in other areas.

It does look damn unlikely. Look how long the concept of gene therapy has been under research and they are nowhere near the light at the end of the tunnel in terms of getting something effective. But who knows...sometimes advances in one field accelerate another, for example, sophisticated computer power and more advanced molecular modelling or bioinformatics. Let us hope something shifts that curve of advancement...

                    • Who wants.. to live.. forever

Luckily, so far it's quite obvious you're all just talking out of your asses.

                          • Would you want to live forever? If so, why?

Have you considered whether it is actually desirable for man and our immediate surroundings to pursue immortality?

Assuming for the sake of argument that this is actually something that is feasible, which I highly doubt. Hence my comment on which part of the anatomy seemed to generate most of this discussion.

                              • Dear me, you're actually afraid to die. What a narcissistic notion. Quite hip though, so I understand.
