I feel like **** right now. The Commies have been utterly pwned, which was to be expected. But what makes me really sick is the amount of votes we lost since the last time in my hometown, despite all the work I had put into it. I feel quite inadequate

That's not so clear. Many people who self-identify as "rather on the left" (28%) have voted for Bayrou, and I don't think they'd vote Sarkozy in the runoff. As to those who identify as "rather on the right" (28% of them also voted for Bayrou), many chose Bayrou because they don't like Sarkozy's character.

The real challenge, for both remaining candidates, is to woo the Bayrou vote in order to win. Sarkozy clearly can't win only with a hardline stance aimed at wooing Le Pen's electorate. And wooing the Bayrouists back home won't be that easy: I guess Ségolène will insist on negative campaining, in order to assassinate that Sarkozy character. Sarkozy will be unable to have the voters forget the fear he inspires.

                  Sarkozy

                  It's morning in France.

Royale will just drag France deeper into the socialist stagflationary pit.

This is probably the last we've seen from Le Pen.

                          And a turnout of 85%.
