  • Anybody Seen "Sunshine"?

By which I mean the Danny Boyle sci-fi film, not the solar phenomenon. I'm generally indifferent to sci-fi, but the genre rings the chimes of lots of people in the OT so I thought I'd ask.

Anyway, it looks like this film has now opened everywhere in the world except the US (where it doesn't open until September ). I caught it last weekend and, although I didn't find it entirely satisfying, I have found myself thinking about it all week -- which is more than I can say for most crap I see in theaters. It also seemed better than any crew-in-space film I'd seen since Aliens, though I'm not sure that's saying much.

No spoilers from me, but I will say I liked the first two-thirds of the film, which was primarily psychological, far more that the action-oriented last third.

Anybody else have an opinion to share?

      That's certainly a valid opinion!

I saw the trailer and it's apparant disregard for solar dynamics was worrisome.

From the trailer I thought it's some Armageddon stuff, just without Bruce Willis.

I think the trailer is selling it that way, but it's actually a kind of weird cross between 2001 and Alien. The "save the world" stuff is just a backdrop.

Well they may be able to resurrect this star but I would say any member of Hearsay is beyond their capabilities...

I still haven't quite forgiven Danny Boyle for the shakey cam garbage that was 28 Days Later. And after being absolutely appalled by another supposed sci-fi film, The Fountain, I don't know if I have the nerve to see Sunshine, lest my faith in sci-fi cinema is destroyed for all time.

Isn't there supposed to be a sequel to 28 Days Later coming out?

I thought the obvious hilarious response would have been, "29 Days Later- This time it's a Leap Year".

Danny Boyle is a great puck-moving defenseman.

I enjoyed sunshine, I thought it was well worth watching in the cinema for the special effects. dont want to spoil it for people as I went in having managed to avoid or forget any reviews

Will be watching it again when I can get it on dvd
