"Quoting some things of the article, apartently she did this so she could buy the new epic flying mount of the expansion Burning Crusade (which is around 5000 gold worth). She published a message on internet (the article doesn't mention where). This is where she explained all the conditions for this trade: one night of sex in exchange for WoW gold. The girl finally acepted one guy and after sex he gave her the money.

In the game she was a level 70 (max. level) female night elf. About the mounts, the only difference between a normal one and an epic one is the speed at which they fly.

As a personal note, I can not believe that people reaches these levels of insanity to buy an in-game mount "

Meh, so what? Consenting adults are free to do whatever short of breaking laws. If prostitution is illegal in either location, then the person in the corresponding jurisdiction ought to be prosecuted, otherwise why should anyone really care?

If true 5000g is worth $100+, so seems like she got a fair deal (Dis is that right?). A questionable choice of what to spend it on perhaps, but that's her choice.

She got the better end of it. As I said, I doubt she's a looker. And she probably doesn't have much skill in the area of sex. And she's not in the U.S. (prices are much higher here).

If you really want prices, I can give you some. But it all depends on the girl, how slow she is, and how well a negotiator you are.

Escort joints (illegal) and brothels outside of town can run you $100 to $500. Depending on length (of time- not penis), positions etc.

edit: not that I'm an expert at this stuff or anything. . It's not something I do regularly, or even semi-regularly. But I have been known to hang out on some bulletin boards for prostitution.

As far as I'm aware, on most servers 5K gold sells for about 200$ US.
I'm not very up to date on prostitution rates, but I would think this is probably close to being a fair conversion.

From that perspective, this story is as UNspectacular as one headlining "girl prostitutes herself for 200$".

Hardly surreal, a miracle or whatever.

Once you accept the idea that virtual goods have real value, this story is nothing special.
