I'm not very up to date on prostitution rates, but I would think this is probably close to being a fair conversion.

From that perspective, this story is as UNspectacular as one headlining "girl prostitutes herself for 200$".

Hardly surreal, a miracle or whatever.

Once you accept the idea that virtual goods have real value, this story is nothing special.
the problem is virtual goods they are only convertable to dollars in a small market, with a limited amount of buyers and sellers. Their value only becomes apparent after the coversion.

Why would you want to get paid in virtual goods when the options you have with cash are so much greater?

The article cites the Spanish edition of The Inquirer as a source, and something called 20 Minutes. With such impeccable credentials the story must be true.

          Same here
To have sex just to get some virtual goods is the same as someone who pays $200 for the same... pointless IMHO

My spanish isn't that good, but I can't see that they met physically - maybe they just had a good night of cybersex
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

              To get a discount?
I'm not so clear on normal prostitute prices, but maybe the 5k Wow gold would have cost her more and she is in fact getting a discount, counting on the novelty\publicity factor to get the deal through (" I banged that 5K chick.")

I mean sure we can argue whether this was a good deal or not, but the crux is that this is not that interesting. Wow gold selling for cash is old news, sex selling for cash is very old news, cash for cash is old news, so why is wow gold for sex news?

For all we know it's been done many times before, just indirectly.

Basically people who are surprised by this are in fact still surprised that wow gold sells for money at all.
As I said before, if you accept this part, then this story is boring.

They have no value to you.
Just like many things in real life have probably no or low value for you but can still have value for someone else.

Because most of us would have assumed that the set of those who pay cash for gold and the set of thoe who have sex for cash are disjoint, or nearly so.

We would? I'd have thought anybody who takes his gaming seriously enough to dump tons of real money into it would have a hard time getting tail the normal way...

I meant those who buy WoW gold usually aren't also able to get people to pay them for sex.

well obviously its to get a discount on a fixed good. but the difference is prositutes dont sleep with johns for goods and services, they sleep with them for money that can be used at the discretion of the prostitute. they exert more control. shes a whore, not a prostitute.

I wasn't aware of that distinction between whore and prostitute.
It's seems pretty irrelevant to me, for one, and I don't think that's a fixed usage.

What if a girl sleeps with men for bonds? or foreign currency?
Do they get a different name
