If we complete these 4 steps, then I think we'll be able to get Social Security reform passed.

The thing that got me worked up is being called greedy.
I've just been planing my retirement based on what we thought were the rules. And changing the rules on us and not expecting us to be a bit peeved is a bit unreasonable.

I do expect a reasonably good retirement, but think being called greedy because I planned is just silly.

changing the rules so that future generations can enjoy SS is a good thing though. thats what people my age are advocating.

I realize that and have even stated here that i'm willing to accept less benefits. But being called greedy is pushing it. I personally wished that half of our money had been deposited in personal ira type accounts. At least then I could have expected to receive that.

As long as it is completely independent, like the Federal Reserve, then politics shouldn't cause any problems. Now if politicians get involved then we'd have huge problems. The California Public Employees Retirement Program (CalPERG) is huge but independent so there hasn't been many problems with politics.
