I never said or implied any such thing.

Who defines liberation? I'd say that an honest assessment, without the implicit bias that feminists have against tradition, is liberation. Simply embracing feminism is replacing one mental conditioning for another, one set of chains for another.

    • But that cannot happen as long as feminists continue stigmatising the housewife...

One moment you assert that the feminist movement in India has no credibility and has resulted in a backlash that has further marginalized it, and the next moment you (seem to) assert that it has the power to stigmatize being a housewife such that women will feel obligated to (most likely in defiance of her family/society at large) go out & get a job.

I am asserting, however, that it should aspire to be.

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

Oh come on. You aren't just arguing for the status quo. You are saying that women shouldn't say these type of things because it will mess up your society. Read what you have written in this thread.

How are you replacing your chains?

          • Imagine for a moment, aneeshm, that you aspire to be a "house husband." You want the role that has been traditionally female. Really imagine that.

            How would your family react?
How would other families you know of react, if you were their son?
            How would friends/acquaintances react?

These roles are DEEPLY engrained, even here. Moreso in India, I believe.

I'm not talking about India here.

Given the way I've behaved throughout my life, they'd refuse to believe if in the beginning. But if they found that I was making sure that I was acting consciously, and knew the consequences fully, they wouldn't mind.

                  Thankfully, my (hypothetical) wife would.

I don't know, but their reaction most probably won't be positive.

                  Not positively, I'm afraid.

What you fail to recognise is that the house husband is an oddity in India, whereas the career woman is most emphatically not. A woman pursuing a career would be immediately accepted (I know because half the women among the people I know are working, and are treated no differently because of it), whereas a man pursuing a housewife's role would not.

                    • ****! even in the US you can't be a house husband with everyone questioning your manhood. Good luck finding a women who isn't a feminist who will respect you if you don't make more money than her.

I have trouble believing that, aneeshm. Perhaps in your class/caste that is true.

I can't speak to the first bit really (my dad was Mr. Mom, but only after having been a pigdog oppressor grade A-2 high-level executive first), but I have found the latter. My wife makes a LOT more than me, and there is no respect problem.
