    WTF?

    Bangladesh made it?

This is ultimately ironic - India and Pakistan united in humiliation against Bangladesh.

At least we didn't murder our coach.

But he did resign today. For "personal reasons".

QFT. We don't call them West Asians.

If a landmass jutting off of Asia (and separated from the rest of it by high mountains) having a distinct family of cultures, histories, and languages qualifies as a continent, then India is a continent

The correct name for the continent is "Eurasia".

                Asia is the eastern apendage.

Europe is not a continent. Apparently back when the greeks were naming things, they didnt feel comfortable enough with such knowledge as they had of the north and east shores of the Black Sea to determine that Europe and Asia were connected.

Both Europe and "India" (IE the geographic entity, not just the Rep of India) are subcontinents.

New Guinea is sometimes called a "hemi-continent"

Is there a reason for this, or is it just so it can big itself up to Borneo?

My understanding is because the species (in biology) and cultures and languages (anthropology) are so diverse, and so different from either southeast asia or Australia, due to historic seperations. Ive seen the word used mainly by Jared Diamond.

They knew very well that Europe and Asia were connected North of the Black Sea. It's just they didn't think of either as a "continent" in the sense of a major landmass surrounded by water.

I'll once again point out the superiority of Swedish, where we distinguish between världsdelar, the traditional divisions of the world like Europe, Asia, etc, and kontinenter, the geographical landmasses like Eurasia, Australia, etc.

We could go as far as to call Africa a subcontinent too.

Biologically, New Guinea doesn't differ more from Australia than various parts of, say, mainland Africa differ from one another. This should come as no surprise - the two landmasses were connected as late as during the last ice age.

A better candidate to the title of "hemicontinent", from the biological PoV, would be Madagascar, which isn't all that much smaller, and has been cut off from the African and Indian mainlands since the Cretaceous. Of course, it cannot begin to match New Guinea's ethnological diversity.

In that case, North America is one too.
