BTW there will be a peak in oil production at some point but we have yet to search something like 70% of the earth's surface for oil and we haven't even begun to look for really deep oil so peak oil is still a long way off. In any event just about everything oil does can be done with something else and if the price gets up to high then thermal cracking of coal becomes viable so there shouldn't be any massive shortages given that far more coal exists then oil.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

My thoughts about it? It won't happen in decades. Now that the oil market price has fallen, the doomsday predictors in the media who thought we'd see continous increase in prices without fluctuation to $100/bbl and beyond by now.
Those of us who had our eyes open had known about oil sands before the loud-mouthed ones kept noise from oil running out within our lifetimes.

The UK has recently experienced its own Peak Oil, in the last couple of years IIRC.
This is already having quite a major knock-on effect on our economy and energy procurement behind the scenes, not least our sudden exposure to the potential effects of Russia's stranglehold on Natural Gas supplies which we are now beginning to rely upon at an alarming rate...
Obviously this is nothing more than a relatively costly inconvenience at the moment due to the fact that the World as a whole hasn't reached Peak Oil, however it is troubling that we have burned through our HC 'savings' like a spoiled rich kid who just got his inheritance instead of managing it as a resource for the future like our North Sea neighbours Norway...
