The last thread of this I remember, the thread ended up being for bashing people's older laptops.

Yes, I was right and Laurentius was wrong. I recall. His laptop died not too long after I criticized it for being too hot to be reliable.

It's an application that uses idle processor cycles on your computer to perform scientific computations towards specific goals. You computer automatically gets a "work unit" which it computes, then it automatically sends the results back to the organizations doing the research.

I'm adding a p4 3.60 GHz. It should be better than the laptop I used back in 2004, which became unstable shortly after an intensive use of WCgrid (as a dell laptop, it had a natural tendency to overheat).

I hope WCgrid won't fragilize the desktop I'm using now.

Asher, at the beginning of this advertisement thread, we were team #219 (points generated). Do you expect us to rise in the rankings now that the ad-thread has attracted quite a few new members?

I hope so. I was inactive for about a year and re-started again also. But I have a lowly Athlon 64 3200+.

I've had my family's desktop on for about 18 months now I guess... doesn't seem that long though. I just added my laptop today, now that I've been keeping it on in one place most of the time.

                        Everyone should do this.

This program isn't using the memory; rather it is the dozen or so other programs I have running in the background which are using 1.2 gb of ram and 3.5 gb of virtual ram.

Vista's memory usage lies, due to the application cache.
