Are the discoveries made through that system patent-free? if so, I might contribute.

Yes, all of the information is released publicly as well.

What if you could support causes you care about while reading this post? Your device’s unused computing power can help scientists tackle some of the world’s biggest problems: from finding better #HIV and #cancer treatments to more efficient sources of renewable energy? I just joined World Community Grid to help – join me!

World Community Grid is making technology available only to public and not-for-profit organizations to use in humanitarian research that might otherwise not be completed due to the high cost of the computer infrastructure required in the absence of a public grid. As part of our commitment to advancing human welfare, all results will be in the public domain and made public to the global research community.

Haven't had it installed for a long time...
This space is empty... or is it?

I meant when they make the SMP client. I don't mind it running at 100% on an unused core.

Not much - Pentium 4 dual core CPU with 3.06 GHz (probably the worst dual core CPU ever made )

Um, did they have a dual core P4? I thought they just had hyperthreading...

And some old laptop, don't remember which CPU and I'm too lazy to check

Perhaps you have just exposed my ignorance here

If it's not dual core, then why does my system look like this?

                        A dual core P4 is a Pentium D.

That's because there's a "virtual" core on your processor, it's still only 1 core.

                          Unless it's a Pentium D, not a Pentium 4.
