            Seriously though, there is such a thing as sledding without snow. You can do it on a grass-covered hill or down a gravel or dirt slope. Either way, you're more likely to fall off and make sounds of your own than you are in soft, cushy snow.

                Straight down due to gravity yes, but we're not talking about falling objects. 'Friction' ring a bell?

                Snow has a much lower friction coefficient than grass, gravel, dirt, or mud.
