It's a free fanmade project, a remake of indeed WC Privateer. Very good IMO.

You can download it here.

Then there's a modding group who worked further using P:R 1.2 as a base. Their project is called Privateer: Parallel Universe (link explains how to download it). They add more of their own stuff and missions to the game. The AI opponents also fight even better than in 1.2 IMO. They're an ongoing project still under construction, so it may not be as stable or bugfree though. It's a couple months ago I last tried it out, so can't say what the current state is.

THE GAME OF THE YEAR 2008!!! For sure ('cause I'm sure that Fallout-3 aka "oblivion with guns", will be totally screwed).

It's so deep, so well-balanced, so charming and addictive as hell. If you miss the one more turn syndrome, it's a musthave. The game is a real gem of originality among the clones the modern game industry produces now. It remainds me the days when computer games were original (like early Sid's games). The original King's Bounty was my favorite game in early 90's. Now Russians make a perfect sequel, which contains the spirit of the original games and tons of new features.

Heroes of the Might and Magic are dead. Long live the King's Bounty!!!

p.s. The game is released in Europe and will be released in USA this Autumn.
