she'll thank you for it later in life.

Luckily I'm an adult, and don't have to hang out with my parents too much. I used to hate shopping with my mother when I was young. I wanted to go off and do stuff on my own.

although come to think of it, I wonder if my parents were embarrassed by me.

          Hell no.

My parents are the people I most respect in this life. Sure everyone has their small flaws but I could not imagine ever being embarrassed by them.

My father doesnt shower on saturdays and likes to walk around in dirty old clothes, I suppose when you have to look smart and wear suit the whole week its a way to relax a little.

Other than that they pretty much have achieved everything respectable in this life one could hope for. I hope I could do half as good as they have. Both got PhD's, raised 2 kids, live in an apartment in the centre of the capital, have a nice summer cottage by the lake which waters are clear as the sky, dont drink, dont smoke, love each other and are still married after 35 years, are leftists, are doing ok money wise, are healthy. I think thats a pretty impressive list.

leftists!! I'd be embarrassed by that.

I suppose it's tougher when you are more successful than your parents. Which begs another poll. But maybe someone else can make it.

And I do get embarrassed by my parents ignorance and racism. Even if they don't do it in public, it bothers me.

My dad is a homophobe, a racist and pretty ridiculous. For example: my sister who is in 3rd grade has a few best friends. She is no longer allowed to spend time with one of her best friends outside of school because her best friend's mother is divorced. He likes you much less if you are not a catholic. Also I'm not allowed to hang out with boys, he's afraid they'll try to kiss me.

you know how some women can be about their moms. It's irrational. But that should come as no surprise.

A lot better. My mother is an immature conceited *****. My older sister and I are more mature than she is. Dad even said so.

i find that much more tolerable than a homophobic racist that quells freedom. anyway what does your dad know about maturity with his concepts of race, religion etc?

Tolerance doesn't equal maturity. There are many people throughout the world who aren't tolerant but are mature. There are many people in the US/etc who are tolerant, but aren't mature.

i think you can be tolerant and immature but i dont think you can be an out and out racist and homophobe and mature in the adult, "matter of perspective" sense of maturity
