Of course you assume that the first sentient machine to die will have a high level (i.e. equivalent to human) sentience. But I guess there is nothing to exclude that it would be a less evolved sentience, f.e. that of a domestic animal, a dog or a cat.
I guess that in that case, the first death of a sentient A.I. gill go unnoticed."In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act."

I just don't see why it is at all a wise idea to create artificial intelligences that are on the order of being near our own level. The two problems that scream out at me are 1) Although we created them, they are still sentient beings and we'd be enslaving them, forcing them to fight back for their freedom - nevermind the immorality of slavery - and 2) even if we set them free without "bloodshed" (or even with it), what the Hell is there to prevent them from taking after their creators and attacking us afterwards anyway, either for political or religious reasons, just as Humans have themselves done for millenia? The cake is NOT a lie. It's so delicious and moist.
The Weighted Companion Cube is cheating on you, that slut.
