The student better win. According to the logic of the argument the school was using it would of been wrong back in the fifities for a student to support inter-racial dating because that was illegal back then.

Exactly. I spoke to an ACLU lawyer right after she left the oral argument and she said it went pretty well. She is fairly confident.

Was it disruptive to the education of the students? No, they weren't learning anything by going outside for a photo-op. I'd bet money they learned more about the first amendment and free speech because of Frederick's actions than if he hadn't started this.
I work at a middle school. This boy was truant that day and she could have called the police and had him arrested. Parents must notified the school that their child will not be at school that day. That is the law.

Bull****. That might be the law in a few states, but in general the police can't take you in just because you aren't in school.

Truancy laws are no longer in effect? I know in Texas, parents can be charged when their child is habitually truant.
Not supposed to lift your hand or raise your voice to them, but if they won't go to school, it's your fault.

Habitually truant is very different from being out of school one day.

I think Kuci was saying you can't jail the kid for being truant. Laws may say if a kid is habitually truant, the parents have to face some charges, but you can't toss a kid in the clink if you don't see him in school one day.

Ok. So now he's truant from school, advocating breaking the law.
Keep in mind, I think marijuana should be legalized and taxed.
I also think the ability of a parent, or school, to control behavior is being stripped away; while at the same time, holding them responsible for the behavior.

                    That's jacked up.

Yeah, and? People marching in Civil Rights marches in the 60s were advocating breaking the law. And perhaps some of those marching were students truant from school. So what?

Oh for the love of God. This isn't some crusade for civil rights. The guy was laying bait for the school admin and was suprised when they took it.

I don't look at it as "taking the Bait". I look at it as drawing a line in the sand. If you judge for the student now, don't coming whing later, or placing blame.

So, this isn't some great moral crusade. It was a stunt calculated to tick the school off. There's nothing more meaningful here than a jack ass who got what was coming to him.
