It's not just the instructors, it's the overall uselessness of the classes that I have a problem with. College is useless, the piece of paper that said you wasted your time and money on it is not. That's my issue.

Most people learn a lot in college. I don't know about getting your money worth though. There's probably some question to that. It's a product of our corporatist society."The purpose of studying economics is not to acquire a set of ready-made answers to economic questions, but to learn how to avoid being deceived by economists."

Textbooks are something else. To me the problem with textbooks is that the professor requires the textbook and then the students are forced to pay whatever the price is. There's not enough competition in the market and there is no one putting pressure on these companies to lower prices. Every year they go up faster than inflation.
College costs are increasing at twice the rate of inflation. Why do you think that is?I drank beer. I like beer. I still like beer. ... Do you like beer Senator?

The other thing is that with text books they come out with a new edition all the time and so force people to pay for new books when all they really did was change a couple of pages. For example, a book I'm using right now for one of my classes is 4 editions old and it's from 1997. If I had bought the new edition it would cost me 140$, but I got the really old one for 5$ on half-price.com and it hasn't caused any problems.

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

But as said, perhaps it's because you go to a bad or just unsuited college? I know I've learned a hell of a lot in the almost three years I've been at college.Smile

Then why not drop out and do it? If you're not learning anything and don't need the employability of a degree, why study for one?

Of course you're not incapable of learning it on your own, but you pay for the tuition and facilities that make it a lot easier and quicker to do so. I couldn't have learned quite as much as I have done if I'd done it all myself. I certainly wouldn't have had anywhere as good a time either, nor done so many cool projects and been invited to as many amazing events.Smile
