    Hypothetically speaking...
Suppose you were in a real bind, about to be captured by an enemy. Who out of the following would you rather have as a captor?

This is a question of perception and comparison.

I voted for Adolph. I'm Arian, so there's a good chance I'd come home alive. No so with the other two choices.

My best chance for survival would be as a liberal pretending to be pro-Nazi. I could go around whistling Wagner turns and accusing Abraham Lincoln of being Jewish. --I mean, the guy's name was Abraham! Didn't you ever wonder?

Something like 5% of the Germans who were taken prisoner by the Soviets made it home alive after the war.

And as for being a round-eyed devil in one of Mao's prison camps...!?

Well, the Nazi camps the worst that could happen would be near starvation and a poor place to sleep. Most POW camps were much better than the concentration camps that the Jews and other minorities were kept in.

Stalin's and Mao's concentration camps were usally forced labor camps. Most people that died in the Nazi camps were killed in gas chambers or shot. In the Commie's camps most killed because of the poor conditions.

Concentration camps and extermination camps served two separate purposes in Nazi Germany (theoretically).

In reality, the German treatment of Soviet prisoners of war was barbaric in the extreme and is amply attested to by officers of the Wehrmacht and Polish civilians. The average Soviet soldier was not viewed in the same light as Western soldiers, because the Nazi racial ideology saw them as Slavs, and therefore Untermenschen.

Assuming of course that if you were a Soviet soldier you were allowed to live long enough to be taken prisoner- the Kommissar Order allowed for summary execution of certain Soviet soldiers.

                        All had horrific attrocities

Hard line to define which would be best

Since you are a "Prisoner" any arguement about being "Arian" for Germany is out the door, chances are if your in a Stalag it is not because you fit into any BU!!$H!T Master Race Category

As far as a Gulag, I still shudder when contemplating the stories coming from them

and and Chinese Camp is no Hotel or Comfort Inn

I'd say being a "round eye" wouldn't bode well to Chinese Captors/tormentors

Well, it seems several people would prefer to be captured by Hitler than Stalin or Mao, which is interesting, because Hitler is vilified a lot more than the other two are in Western culture. (Which is not to say that Hitler doesn't deserve it, rather that the other two do deserve it.)

Interesting that Stalin and Mao made it into Civ4 and Hitler didn't. (Though I don't mean to open THAT can of worms...)

If you are talking about political prisoners or other invented reason for being captive, then I think that I have myself a Hobson's choice.
