  • What is killing me is he gets SO close. He's been in the bottom three almost every time and yet still manages to stay. How?

No one with eyebrows like that should shave their head. It just makes his ears stick out and makes his eyes look huge. I mean alien HUGE. Like they are the only thing left to look at on his head.

    It disturbs me.

I agree. And yet the dress pulled it off and Gina is sent home.

      • Who was fooled by the groupings last night?

Did anyone really think Jordan, Lakisha, and Melinda were the bottom three?

And Sanjaya in the other group gave that away too.

He doesn't bug me anymore. I know it's a joke and It's gonna go away so I'll just tivo over him until he goes away.

He's ok-- my comment was "top 5 at best"IIRC-- I think its a stretch for him but with in my mind Haley, Sanjaya being clearly weaker as singers, Gina already undeservedly gone etc, I think he could still make it to top 5 -- More realistically he will probably be the next to go unless he does something amazing

Good call. If some desribed one of the contestants as the big breasted one, how could you think of anyone other than her. THose puppies are huge and usually shown

Sorry my bad-- that was who I was thinking of-- I like her singing fine but tend tro find her somewhat forgettable. Her "thing" seems to be similiar to Melinda and Lakesha except they do it better

            .
Chris was the best last year but nature of the show-- he didn't win.

I do agree that the three named are probably the best voices BUT I doubt that they will be the top 3 since they are similar

The funny thing is if you go over to an American idol board. The Fanjayas are quite vehement in supporting him. A 1000 people can say he sucks and they just say 'thats your opinion and I have mine" . .. While thats true-- musical taste is personal . . .. when 75% of people think that a singer really really really sucks its probably not a questioon of musical taste anymore

I also PVR the show-- I sometimes watch Sanjaya if he is a huge train wreck-- If he is merely bad, I usually skip through him as well

I like Melinda and hope she wins. However, everytime someone is voted off and they cut to her, she looks as if that person is about to face the guillotine (literally) and anyone of them could be next.

They do realize that singing is a question of frequency and related note harmonics and such? It's not just a question of my opinion: the frequencies he hit are not in the song.

That is not an opinionated statement, you can look-up the song.

                      Good greif, fanatics are dumb.

                          • OK, so Melinda can be just good. And if I'm not mistaken Lakeesha was not good.

I think they should make a rule: white people can't sing Latino music. As a PR I was almost offended by the lack of rhythm, energy, movement, and the general malaise of the entire evening. I'm not entirely sure how I felt about getting Latin tips from JLo. That's like getting R&B tips from Lionel Ritchie (yeah, he was good, but it's different now).

Sanjaya Runs Out Of Gas: 'Idol' Voters Boot Malakar
Unlikely 'Idol' is sent home after a country-themed performance that Simon Cowell called 'utterly horrendous.'

                              By Gil Kaufman

Somewhere out there, "American Idol" producers, and judge Simon Cowell, are hoisting frosty ones and heaving huge sighs of relief.

After an inexplicably long run that was full of flash, goofy haircuts, gleaming smiles and more showmanship than all of the other finalists combined, phenom "Idol" underdog Sanjaya Malakar finally ran out of gas Wednesday night.

(Relive a week's worth of "American Idol" with this 60-second recap.)

Following a painfully flat rendition of Bonnie Raitt's "Something to Talk About" on Tuesday night's country-themed show (see " 'Idol' Recap: 'I'm Officially Over Sanjaya'; Phil Actually Pulls Off Country Night "), Malakar was sent home to the grinning satisfaction of Cowell, who hinted before the elimination that he suspected the jig was up.

The night began with a somber Cowell again saying that he would "never, ever, ever" disrespect the families of the slain students at Virginia Tech, explaining his misinterpreted eye roll Tuesday night during Chris Richardson's comments about Monday's campus shootings (see "Simon Cowell Says Eye-Rolling Reaction To VT Comments Was Misinterpreted"). A split-screen demonstration was rolled out to show that Cowell had not heard Richardson's comments because the judge was too busy slamming the singer's "nasally" crooning.

But after that, it was the usual 45 minutes of filler until the verdict: host Ryan Seacrest asking people on the street what they thought about Tuesday's show, a guest performance from Fergie, a painfully long plug for the "Shrek the Third" movie and a performance from guest judge Martina McBride.

Seacrest used a tactic from past seasons that makes the bottom-three reveal even tougher on contestants, announcing that he would split the singers into a group of four that was safe and a group of three that was not. After splitting six contestants into two groups, he asked "safe" finalist Melinda Doolittle to choose which three she thought she belonged with. The savvy singer refused to choose and simply sat down center stage, which brought a smile to judge Randy Jackson's face.

Melinda eventually joined her group, leaving Sanjaya standing in the low-vote trio with first time bottom-dwellers LaKisha Jones and Blake Lewis. A nervous-looking Sanjaya — dressed in jeans, sneakers and a T-shirt that read "Life Is Beautiful" — stood awkwardly apart from Jones and Lewis, who were gripping each other's hand tightly.

When Seacrest asked the judges for their comments on the bottom three, Cowell, who had labeled Sanjaya's Tuesday performance as "utterly horrendous," said with a Cheshire cat grin, "I'm beginning to sense something here."

After what he said was a record top-seven vote of 38 million, Seacrest told Lewis to rejoin the rest of the gang and then informed Sanjaya that he'd reached the end of the road. The 17-year-old singer, who had become an internet phenomenon and had given the show tremendous buzz during a season that many have said contains the weakest crop of singers to date (see "10 Reasons (Besides Howard Stern) Why Sanjaya's Still On 'Idol' "), flashed another of his signature ear-to-ear smiles and gave Jones an extended hug.

"I'm fine," he told Seacrest. "It was an amazing experience." As he watched his going-away montage, Sanjaya broke into tears, ending his improbable run with another warbly rendition of the Raitt song.

But in the classic Sanjaya fashion fans came to love, the camera-savvy finalist overcame his weak vocals by giving people one last thing to talk about. In a tip of the hat to the fascination with his ever-changing hairdos, Sanjaya ad-libbed a line and sang, "Let's give them something to talk about ... other than hair."

"I can promise you: We won't soon forget you," Seacrest said.
