    He wouldn't have won.

I think also that you can get rid of Haley over the next 2 weeks. Once you do that , you have a bunch of pretty strong singers and freaky hairdo boy

He has clearly been the worst overall singer for some time . . . and like every year of idol I have ever seen, this can take him to 5th or 6th before the redistribution of the votes of other people that vote for eliminated singers are enough to outpace the votefortheworst and those that vote for reasons other than singing

Now in fairness, he probably wasn't the worst on the night but he was definitely bottom 3
No, I was not being sarcastic. If he would project his voice more he would be even better.

Have any of you noticed how a lot of American singers jitter their loud pitch sounds, as if to make it sound like they're really good at singing? Usually it goes from high to low, and they kind of distort it, I think the better word is jitter, as if they're trying to hold a cry in their throat.

Anyway, I hate it. HATE IT.

That is just them showing off their vocal range. They are good if they have a large vocal range.
Christina Aguilera has a great voice, but she does it too much.

            REALLY???

You are seriously telling me that if you close your eyes and just listen, you find his voice ANYWHERE near as good as Melinda or Lakisha.

It astonishes me that anyone can say that with a straight face

If you are talking about what I think you are the person that started it all was Allanis Morriset. All her songs are that way. If she crosses a note span of more than a third she "jitters". Sometimes she does it right at the begining of the note! The first phrases of "You Oughtta Know" are this way.

It's an affectation that drives me 'round the bend.

That being said, I couldn't care less about Sanjaya being in or not. I'm just waiting for the end now. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Melinda is comming out of this ahead. Even if she gets voted off next week I'm buying her album. Why doesn't she quit and go her own way now that she has the exposure?

Ah well, she's being nice. I don't really care, as long as I get to hear her sing, I'll be OK.

I think it's more than being nice. Every additional week of exposure translates to $$ down the road.

And Sanjaya is bothering me less an less since even he knows it's a joke now. But it is disturbing that he doesn't even make the bottom three. It does drive my wife crazy.

That's not what he's talking about. It's the singers like Aguleria and Mariah Carrey that fluctuate constantly instead of holding a note, to show off their range (the Chris guy, not the fat one, does this too). That drives me nuts.

Alanis' cracking and jittering don't bother me because that's not the kind of song she sings or writes -- they add character to the song when she does it. These people are just showoffs that can't hold a melody.

Ohh! You mean those absurd "runs" they stick in every note longer than a sixteenth? They think it makes them sound soulfull when all it really does is make them sound like they need to show off because they can't really sing.

Even Randy and Paula have told people: not every note needs to be a run. Heck, Gwen told the Chris you are talking about not to do that 'cause the song doesn't need it.

Aguilera and Carey do it but they are (or at least were) consumate profesionals, Chris is not. This is the difference between being able to sing well and impersonating someone that can sing well. If all you do is impersonate you don't have the sense of style to tell you when not to do something.

He's got a billion tweenie girls voting for him. Remember David Cassedy and Michael Jackson? Talent, bah! It's all about purculating the newly discovered hormones of the teenie boppers.

My opinion is the same in that I think Melinda is the best singer there. My views on the others -- I'll use my descriptions for them since I think it gives more of a flavor than their names

nice backup singer girl-- da bomb
rocker chick-- liking her more and more-- she is way better than my initial impression
Bald guy-- likeable but top 5 at best
Stubble-face guy-- find a boy band- sings ok
Big-breasted diva-- 2nd best singer there
Clean cut contemporary guy-- I like him a lot-- comes at things with a nice original take
Tall amazonian woman-- good singer but somehow just doesn't wow me the same
Hot chick--On talent is the second worst remaining singer..... Could potentially make top 5 depending on any hot chick voting

Soft spoken kid-- should not have made the top 12. Has been worst on a couple of occassions since making it and cleaarly by a MILE the worst remaining singer overall-- BUT to vote him out might mean that all the others have to rock the house PLUS the judges have to say something nice to him so his protectors don't all go vote 5000 times

I'm kinda used to it now. In Canada they get a heavy pattern of regional voting. That plus tweens took a younger contestant way further than deserved in the last two Canadian idols.

                            With Sanjaya we have

                            1. votefortheworst and others that vote to mock the show
                            2. teeny and tweeny influences as he is the only contestant that looks and acts young
                            3. ethnic vote-- I believe that has an influence
                            4. The freak or spectacle vote-- they don't vote to mock the show really-- all they want is someone that is interesting and they probably find most of the rest to be boring

Based on past experience in other idols, he could make it for 2-5 more shows as others get weeded out. BUt at some point, the votes of the people that vote based on singing win out
