-Funny how Africa has no long term unemployed...
-Health spending should be per capita, otherwise kind of useless.
-Regarding Fish and Japan, yes Japan fishes a lot , but you have to realize that they eat huge amounts of fish and they have to import a lot.
They are the main importers of fish, as far as I know,

Exports and imports serve as good way to praise the influence of Europe until you realize that production is often larger in US, but directed to a much larger domestic demand instead of exported. I've read an article in a local magazine where this site was used to prove the WORLD POWAH-ness of EU wrt US by comparing export/import maps and nothing else.

Comparing trade exports and trade imports instead of production and consumption only shows how dependent the countries' economies are from foreign markets.

Not so. Rather, the map should be normalized to population density. That way, a population map would look completely normal.

Actually, unless I'm mistaken the real problem is that most of these exports are intra-European - if the US showed exports/imports by state it'd be huge because of the huge amount of trade WITHIN the United States.

Yes. That is exactly what I said.

            Are you trolling again?

That's not what you said. You didn't add the critical point that European exports are to other European countries. You may have meant to, but you didn't. And if I were trolling I wouldn't be copying your argument, duh.

I'm imitating your reaction in this post. See my point?

Actually, unless I'm mistaken the real problem is that the maps use absolute values instead of values relative to # of people in the country in question -- if they had a population map of the world it would have Russia as a tiny country while China would be the size of Asia's land area.

And if the maps used values relative to the number of people in question then most European countries would be almost the same size.

The purpose of a map like this (beyond amusement) is to provide a visual demonstration of the relative ranking of countries by the amount of size distortion of that country. Thus for values that you would normal look at per capita, you normalize them to population density instead.
