    yeah apparently i can create dvd's with iDVD (comes in pre-installed) but i cant watch them in full screen with quicktime

                Quicktime is evil like that. I find that VLC does much of the things quicktime does, and has the benefit of being free.

                  VLC does the job. Plus DVD Player obviously lets you view DVDs full screen.

                                There is some workaround to that, IIRC, but I wouldn't bother. Just download VLC. Also worth checking out is NicePlayer or MPlayer.
