My laptop didn't die....just my AC/DC adaptor for it. But no power, no computer.

The salesman told me his $50 adaptor would replace it. Wrong. Further research shows me I need the $130 adaptor.

Nope, I still don't know for sure what went wrong, but the day went something like this: It started out me surfing 'Poly from the old machine, waiting for the new machine to arrive. When it finally did I unplugged the old computer to make room for the new one. Halfway through connecting the cables I couldn't find a missing cable (that the old computer didn't need, so I didn't have one around, but was needed to start this computer), after a long search (without any luck) I decided to plug the old computer back in, then it happened: "BANG"... that didn't sounds good (no light or smoke though)... surprise surprise, it didn't start up anymore... and just two minutes later I found the missing cable, so now I could get the new computer to work

After a few quick look-through on the hardware on the old computer I couldn't find any black spots, so hopefully most of it still works (hoping it's just the power supply that died that day)
This space is empty... or is it?

150$ sounds like alot (though I'm not up-to-date on videocards atm).

my computer is 4,5 year old and I'm getting a new one as well. Strangely, I didn't demand one from my parents, au contraire, I claimed I don't need new one. Recently there's been a lot of problems with it, but due to system (illegal syrian windows can't be good), not the computer per se. The truth is that it looks "tired", and that I can not play the newest games on it, but still, I love it. It is not broken in any way.

To be fair, I have not been playing any of the 'latest games', I do enjoy the odd game now and again but it just doesn't interest me any more. Although it would certainly be nice to have a shiny new system

For $150 (why does everything at Dell cost an extra $150?) I can get a 2.4 ghz duo with 4mb cache. Is it worth it?

I found to coupons on the net; the first gives 25% off all Dell Home systems and the other gives 2% additional off for repeat costumers (which I am). The new total price is $1464.00.

                          Flat speakers are crap.
Get a decent mouse & keyboard.

                          Floppy drive???

Personally, I wouldn't even buy a optical drive anymore, just add harddrives as you go (this opinion isn't shared by many people, mind you.).

                            The coupons have expired.

i'll junk the floppy drive and save $30. As for speakers, keyboard, and mouse... I have a good set with my current computer so I'm going to use my wireless keyboard/mouse along with my nice speakers/sub. No need to buy another one.
