when my guard unit was actived back in 03 we were put up in barracks that had been scheduled to be demolished and had been partially. Within two weeks of getting there all of us had health problems from the ****ing mold and God knows what else was in there.

To do this to healthy people is one thing but to people who have health problems to start with is criminal.
Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that. --Saul Tigh

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

He (Harvey, the one recently who got booted) would have MINIMAL if any say in where troops are billetted,(color=red]Let me say he could say or strongly suggest, but that is about how far it would go [/color]) especially during a wartime crisis. (Covering Spraybers remarks about returning gaurd units) and family housing was an issue with Lonestar as a dependant 12 years or so ago aboard a U S Marine Corps Base.

As mentioned, they are still redoing the substandard housing for the Marine Families. Same with Barracks.

In the military you have chain of command, then you have the official request process, now if something as major as a renovation/replacement projects is needed, then it could be 3-5 years out. IF they decide that is the course of action needed to follow.

Shame indeed, but someone had to be the scapegoat, and 2 have filled the billetting thus far

A couple of things to note...

            (1) Walter Reed is expected to close within about a decade. I can understand (though not excusing) why investment for maintenance was not forthcoming.

            (2) Falling on your own sword for fvckups and perceived fvckups under your command is as old as bureaucracies of even modest size have been around. Dr. Harvey had to have his eyes wide open about the vagaries of the job when he accepted it. It sucks, but is just a fact of life.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
