When I lived in Canada, our neighbor used to do a rink in his front yard (we lived in the country so he has lots of space) every winter.
Wasn't as nice as this one of course, but was bigger.

We did the same thing when i lived in James Bay. We had a fenced yard and my Dad managed to get a decent patch of grass to grow in it. (It's fairly up north so it wasn't easy). That's when my brothers and i decided to make a rink in the yard. Lots of fun was had but - as we found out the next spring - the grass didn't survive the treatment.
