Sinise looks the part, atleast. He was great in Forest Gump, and is still great in CSI NY. But someone needs to fix the thread title. I was thinking "Scotty? He'd be much better as Bones McCoy."

Terrible idea. Obviously it should be where the three of them are in starfleet academy (Spock sneaks in, numerous hijinks relating to disquises) and trying to get officerships or something.

As somebody who doesn't give a damn about Star Trek, I'm with rah, but would take it further: Damon and Sinese are inspired choices, but Brody doesn't work; even deadpan, his eyes are too expressive (on the other hand, he's a dead ringer for Buster Keaton; where's that biopic?).

I'd cast Robert Carlyle as Scotty, but the as-many-big-stars-as-possible logic means they'll probably try to get Ewan McGregor -- which may mean Scotty with full frontal nudity!

Paramount is not about to walk away from a proven money-maker franchise like Star Trek without giving it a shot. Lord knows there are plenty of stories out there, from legit authors and fanbase alike. And franchise films are easy to market. James Bond movies continue to make money to this day.

I think the casting on this looks quite solid, and could be leveraged into a series of at least 5 movies. J.J. Abrams is a good call as director as well.

Actually, he's too old to play young Kirk. He's 36, Shatner was 36 or so when he started playing Kirk.

Ben Affleck should be Spock.
