    Good guessing!

So now this leaves four unguessed Pharaohs:
the troublesome 9 and 10, as well as the much easier 2 and 8, which very ironically have not yet been guessed.
You'll kick yourself if you get them wrong.

        8. No, but fairly close...

And you're really close on 10.

          Well...

          Spoiler:
I said Amenkhotep III, so based on that comment, it'd have to be Amenkhotep II. Can't imagine anyone else being really close

#9 still has me puzzled. One idea I had (I know it's wrong) is

          Spoiler:
Piye, the Nubian king, but this certainly can't be him, and I'm fairly sure no Piye's statues have been found.

          Is #8
          Spoiler:
          Tuthmosis III ?
          Sure looks like him.

I know that #2 is one of the "big names", but can't figure him out at this point for some reason.

Well, you're close on 8 and 10, but you haven't got them yet.
            Spoiler:
Think chronologically on #10. Huge hint: Amenhotep III is a relative. On #8, you're dizzyingly close but made the same mistake Shiva did.

As for 2 and 9, here are some hints:
            Spoiler:
Think later than Piye on 9. On #2, you say he's a "big name." Think REALLY BIG.

                Yes, later than Piye.

                10. Correct! Good job.

Now that I've played Civ1 again and know that Tutankhamon wasn't the leader of Egyptians in it:
                  Spoiler:
                  #8: Ramses

I recognised his face from the pic, I just remembered the wrong name

Very good try, but no. That's not #8. One point has been made in the past that Pharaohs' depictions are very similar to each other.

Continue on your train of thought. It'll make sense in the end.

Wha, really? I was quite positive #8 is what I said, but if both Shiva and I make the mistake... .

                        Provided your hint, #10 is
                        Spoiler:
                        Tuthmosis IV
And if we were close on #8, I assume
                        Spoiler:

                              #9 Ptolemy

Frankly, after spending a month visiting almost every major site in Egypt a couple of years back, one would hope a little bit of the knowledge I'd gained had sunk in!
