He's a senator, and a fairly long-tenured one at that. And he's trying to win a nomination. WTF did you expect?

He can "talk straight" and lose, or he can go for the win. You'll complain, but you're gonna vote Dem anyway.

I think Oerdin is just pointing out the hypocricy of Republicans who complained about Kerry's Flip Flopping. It was ridiculous at the time I can't believe how effective it was though.

As if changing your mind is a bad thing!!! Learning from mistakes and evolving your opinions is a very good thing in a person.

It did seem to be surprisingly effective. But consider the target audience of such lines.

But it probably only works if the opponent's experience is one the executive side of government (Dubya was a governor). If it's McCain v. Hillary, the Dems may not be able to use "flip-flopper" against McCain. Then again, Hillary hasn't been in the Senate long, so I don't know how much "flip-flopping" she's done yet.

That line was also true of the people running around calling Kerry a "flip-flopper" back in '04. They were voting for Dubya (or maybe Libertarian) anyway.

It's (likely uninformed) undecided voters who may be swayed by such things. Given the US electorate, that's a fair number of people...

Well I'm not voting for McCain anyway (His incumbent protection act was disgusting) but I still find Oerdin boring.

Am I correct that "incumbent protection act" refers to campaign finance reform?

                      Meh.

Could the system really be rigged any further to the benifit of incumbents? McCain-Feingold or no, they had a huge advantage already.

I intend to ignore him unless/until he wins the nomination. With the primaries safely behind him, then he might be worth listening too. For the time being, however, he's got to woo a portion of the public I have little in common with. It's highly unlikely he's going to say things I would like.

Does that mean he's actually different than he was in 2000? Unlikely, except maybe he's a little savvier.

The Vietnam War was truly a tragedy if it meant that people like McCain couldn't run for President in 2000

I used to like him back when I thought he actually meant most of what he said. Now it is clear he has always been willing to say or do anything to get elected even if it is pandering to scum like Jerry Fallwell.

As Mike pointed out this is more a reaction to the mistreatment of previous candidates.
