Yes, Drogue, I'd like a firmer hand in moderation, very much so. And according to this poll, apparently so would a significant portion of the ones who post.

Talk it over among the mods, identify the worst culprits, and start persuading them to respect the fact that mindless spamming is unacceptable behaviour on this board. I understand you have various means of persuasion at your disposal. Once this message starts to sink in with the ones you've identified, it will spread quickly to the rest of the forum. And then maybe you will manage to hold onto posters who'd otherwise become increasingly fed up with the current state of affairs.

It's not just a matter of closing or deleting frivolous threads. The worst side to the problem is the mass posting of nonsensical 'chatter' - I wouldn't even call them one-liners, since that would entail some humorous quality to a wider group of people - of which this thread presents scores of examples. Take a look around and tell me you don't see a problem with the way a handful of posters, maybe a dozen, are behaving?

The question I think is No. I don't think post counts have done anything. There has been a change of behavior, probably a result of the Admin change, but I don't think it is necessarily a bad thing.

I didn't care about postcounts even before they were brought back to the OT. Besides, I bought PLUS so really, why should I care now?

But yeah Winston, shut up and quit your whining. Just because you don't have anything substantive to say, even if it's spam, doesn't mean others can't enjoy themselves and make Poly's OT a comfortable and sociable place to be.

I have to say I think Spiffor's right. 10 votes that it was better before, 12 that it's at least as good now, and 10 votes that nothing's changed.

The surest way to get spam reduced is that when you see it, click on report the post to moderators. I read the forum quite a lot, but nowhere near every thread, and so this is an invaluable way to see where spam is happening so I can take action. Obviously I don't always act, as sometimes I see it as permissable, but if someone's complained I'm far more likely to try to solve it.

I do see your point, and if the mindless chatter is pervasive, ie. the thread has decended solely into it, then I'll happily close/delete and warn. However usually it's an occasional couple of posts or an aside in a thread that's otherwise on topic, which doesn't really warrant action, IMHO. If you feel differently, please report the thread and I'll make sure I take a look.
