    Firefox 2.0 (internal spellcheck) FTW!

note: spellcheck is apparently not in the spellcheck dictionary.

Kosovo or Haiti, Lebanon as a third.

I can understand your reservations on Central and West Africa.

But it's just such a huge continent. And the diverse climate and history are amazing if you can get beyond the touristy stuff. Forget safaris , go spend some time talking with the archaeologists who are uncovering stuff in buried settlements in Northern Sudan that haven't been seen by humans in over two-thousand years. Of course I think a lot of that will be under water in a year or two when a new Chinese financed dam project is finished. But it should be okay now. This project may have ended due to funding issues.

In Libya the American Institue of Archaeology (AIA) is returning to an ancient Roman City excavation they had to abandon in the 1930's. I think that had something to do with the run up to WWII. I think that's this summer actually. It was in a recent issue of Archaeology Magazine which is in fact a publication of the AIA. They may be excused for being a bit ebuillent about that.

In Thimbuktu I believe scholars are still copying and digitizing the libary there. Some of the arab manuscripts there date from the middle ages. I believe they had a copy,in arabic, of some ancient Greek works as well. Though I believe the university there is much older, though I understand that many of the earlier works were destroyed.

The number of archaeological and scholary projects in Africa right now is very great. It's a very exciting time for a lot of disciplines.

edited for clarity and the word well and that sudan dig may not be there anymore.

That's exactly my thought. Well if your going to go somewhere dangerous it might as well be some place where everyone has the routine down. Amatures being more unpredictable then professionals type thinking.

Kosovo is probably the best option here. Nice location and not much happening (AFAIK)

Poly-wise we have people from the ME (though not from Lebanon unless I miss someone) posting here, but not from Kosovo. So public interest dictates that you go to the Balkan to tell us the truth about it

I vote Kosovo too. It is the closest to Bulgaria
It's ****ty if you are a Serb but other than that relatively quite AFAIK.
There should be some development in the Kosovo sittuation soon. I remember that Serbian parliament was supposed to have some vote over the future of Kosovo but I don't remember if they did or still debating.

unsurprisingly, their message was something along the line: Ahtisari, go **** yourself.
