this isn't a "what you're listening to" thread.
Rather it is interesting what music you used to compeltely not get before, and then began listening to recently.
I must mention the greatest rise in the last two weeks to "The Smiths".
I used to really not get them, and rarely would I like a ... well... non structured melody. But about 3 weeks ago I decided to listen to their best of album, and I began really appreciating several of the songs. They are very strong in imposing a melancholy mood which I really like.
Now I'm listening to it again, and this time paying attention to the lyrics - and I think they are very good. A lot of cynicism and just plain "oddness".
What did you discover only lately?Speaking of Erith:

Black Lipstick - an Austin band that's vaguely reminiscent of the Velvet Underground and Iggy Pop. I can't get enough of them. They've put out four albums, all of them quite good (Sincerely, Black Lipstick and Converted Thieves in particular).
Tin Hat Trio - One of the more unique bands that I've heard; basically an acoustic troupe that has a style mixing jazz, bluegrass, Eastern European folk, and a dozen other styles. I like Rodeo Eroded a lot, which has a Willie Nelson cameo.
Thinking Fellers' Union Local 282 - Another band that's hard to pinpoint. Really dissonant Sonic Youth, I guess. Admonishing the Bishops is probably their most accessible album.
Stereolab - I knew I liked 'em for a few years now, but I finally got one of their albums (and then a second and third). Emperor Tomato Ketchup is awesome.
Professor Longhair - The godfather of New Orleans blues. It's a pretty distinctive style from the Delta/Chicago, with some badass piano playing."Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. He is full of murderous resentment of people who are ignorant without having come by their ignorance the hard way. "

QFT. Good guitarist, dreadful singer.
It's unique - just like Jim Morrisson.
Muse I can't swallow. They're too.... over stretching and over powering.
They have nice melodies, but the whole songs are not something I can relate to in any way.

Damn it Siro, you're only 20 or so years too late Actually I started listening to them in the late 90s so I can't criticise really. Some other bands 'which I meant to get round to listening earlier but only just did' include The Pixies and The Clash (well, not that recently now, but should have done it earlier).
I should have started listening to the smiths when I was 2 y/o
