Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Communists and peasants have little in common. Communists are progressive industrialists, with views of the future and technological progress while Peasants live from sustinance with views of tradition and the land.

Communism is for the working man, not the peasant.

That was frigging brilliant. I would post 'zing', but I don't think that apolyton allows a font big enough to show the awesomness.

I honestly thought he'd set that up deliberately.

I didnt intend this to criticize the Communist Party of Bengal. While I dont know the details of the land acquisition, and I certainly hope the farmers are compensated, it looks to me like the CP here is doing the right thing. Clearly industrialization through trade and capitalism is the way most likely to achieve development and to help the poor, who are presumably the CP's main constituency.

Two cheers for commie led capitalism.
I don't get the feeling that they are trying to help the poor, and so they probably won't. This kind of policy requires a lot of surplus labor and leaves a lot of people even worse off than they were before.

it absorbs surplus labor. It hires people at higher wages than theyd get otherwise, or else they wouldnt take the factory jobs.

The GLF was the right thing to do only the vague sense that industrializing China was the right thing to do. Industrializing, building factories at this time and in this place, inviting in investment, are in a fairly detailed way the right thing to do. The only question I can see is the amount of compensation paid to farmers, and at WORST thats several orders of magnitude different from the millions of deaths associated with collectivization and the GLF.

I suppose that will depend on how much they export, however, the govt will probably do everything they can to keep wages down and those that stay in the agricultural sector will definitely suffer from the overall plan.

I didn't. If the comment weren't so damned funny and perfectly timed I'd bother to make a serious comment, but it was brilliant, so I'm letting it go.

Well, if they aren't properly (define "properly") compensated, they'll end up in the black hole of Calcutta and live and die horrid miserable lives. I'd consider a job at the factory proper compensation, assuming the job pays decent wages.
