    • Lasers! They're no good for your eyes either!

I used to stare at the sun as a kid quite a bit. I'm 30 and have 20/20 vision... go figure.

Incandescents aren't good for your eyes either.

          • Most people don't try to light their homes with masturbation though...

              • It could potentially be good for the environment (so long as the environment we are talking about isn't in the home).

                • If done vigorously enough could help to heat the home

You wouldn't need as many incandescent light bulbs then.

                    • 4 pages and no one mentions mercury poisoning.

Incandescents (inefficient but heat is a good thing, short life time, no mercury vapor)

                      CFLs

LEDs (longer life and less mercury than CFL's)

                      • LEDs are teh future. But still many years away, the major lighting companies forecast negligible revenue from them over the next 3 years.

I find the CFL's to be fine in my halls where they are encased in a lighting fixture. The light seems ok.

But oddly, in my garage where I just have 2 "naked" bulbs, the lighting just seems dingy in comparison to what it was. Its not enough that I will switch them out buty the lighting just seems vaguely inferior
I noticed the same thing with my admittedly limited exposure to the new bulbs. The light seemed 'weaker'(?). I was wondering what the point of the exercise was if I have to double up on light sources (or suffer with poorer quality).

To me the point is moot as I use so few light bulbs (only 9 bulbs in my space require changing). I'll continue using the cheaper 'less efficient' bulbs.

Yup Mercury is bad and once in your system is almost nigh impossible to get out. readily absorbable.

                              Flourescent Lights and Mercury

In industry we have to recycle every flourescent tube we have in our plants. And God forbid don't break one.

                              • When I was young there used to be kids toys where you had to get all the mercury through a hand held maze. Those were the days.
