Actually they do seem to last longer and frankly I would pay 5 bucks to extend how frequently I have to change certain bulbs ( the ones that require a ladder to reach)

Actually, it was the lasting longer, and not the electrical efficiency, which made me start purchasing them in the first place.

Before I bought them I would regularly have my bulbs run out and then sit in the darkness for a couple of months.

Fluorescents are especially good in those cheap fully enclosed fixtures that have no air circulation around the bulb. I was forever changing bulbs until I switched to the fluresecents.
