I've been using these for about a decade now in all the places I've lived - interestingly the ones I bought back in 1997 are all still in working order! (though I only use those old models as spares (one day I might need one!), or in places like the basement because they take a while to get going!)

What amazes me about the dickheads who still are in denial about the antropogenic origins of global warming, is that most of the most immediate things an individual can do to help the environment actually save you significant amounts of money!!!

    Adam Smith!

Given the saving you have already made to your pocket, I expect you will have cut down your carbon footprint by several tons per year!

DT, I suggest you start looking at all those energy efficiency websites - screw the environment, you'll be about to save $000's just by buying energy efficient lightbulbs, turning stuff off instead of leaving it on standy etc... Even you should be smart enough to realise what a no-brainer this is...
I worked out a while ago that in an average home, you save around £2 a year by tyurning things off standby. And that requires you to make journeys of 5-10 miles depending on the size of your house. Would you accept 20p to walk a mile? That's slave labour!

And "energy-saving lightbulbs" are ridicvulously over-rated. The "energy" they save is actually heat. There have been studies that show the heat from a normal lightbulb reduces the expenditure needed on central heating, and since central heating heats rooms you don't use and normal lightbulbs light (and heat) only the rooms you do, they truly are the efficient version.

My original ones (relatively expensive) are still all going after 10 years. Nowadays you can buy them for as little as a £1 or so at places like IKEA who sell them as a loss leader.

I could do with the exercise. As it is I take, willingly, regular walks for no money.

Me too, but would you walk an additional 10 miles if somebody paid you £2 to do so?

At less than 50 yards a day, if you are offering I accept your offer of a pint.

                Oh do **** off!

You're talking disingenuous bollocks as usual by posting blatant lies and misinformation. Care to 'enlighten' us as to how you came to these outlandish calculations?

Besides, the walking should do you good - last I remember you were a certain 'chunky' individual...

No response to the arguments at all, instead insults that seem to imply you are confusing me with someone else.

Because your claims are utterly outlandish as to be deserving of extreme incredulity...

C'mon, you're the one making the claims - back them up.

Oh, you can't because you made them up...

much as it pains me to agree with mobius , the idea that a light bulb heats my lounge is ****ing hilarious.
