Another reason electricity inclusive rents suck - I've got no economic incentive to switch to these babies since any savings would go to the property owners.

Of course, these kinds of solutions are precisely what Gore recommends at the end of "An Inconvenient Truth," when he calls for personal responsibility and individual action as well as government action.
Boy, that Al Gore sure is pretty far out there...

Energy saving aside, how economically useful are the bulbs compared to regular bulbs. They are more expensive, but they also last a lot longer.
But then, I hate changing lightbulbs (and these last a lot longer). For someone who doesn't think about it, cheaper will seem better.

Yeah, right. That was all Gore was saying - use this little handy energy-saving lighbulb thingies.
What was said though, is that giving thumbs up to technological solution in a thread about light bulbs and thumbs down to Gore while this specific example was part of his suggested solutions just shows you have no credibility.

This is good news. If we truly want to do something about environmental issues, we need to marginalize the hysterical Al Gore/moonbat fringe that currently dominates the debate and let practical and capable organizations like Wal-Mart come up with solutions. Capitalism and technological advancement will save us.
This is the same idiot mentality people used to say to Martin Luther King and to Susan B. Anthony and to Frederick Douglas. Wal-Mart is changing because of the critics, not because they care about the environment.Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

I have a number of these bulbs in my house now. Mostly still old incandesants, though. As those wear out, I'll have more & more of the new ones.
The article got me thinking about the total number of sockets in my house.
29 total sockets indoors.
3 old flourescents.
9 indoor floodlights.
2 halogens.
15 normal bulbs, a number of which are the CFLs.
Then there are 4 ourdoor lights... three floodlights & a regular bulb, for a total of 33.
That is a tad more than I expected (guessed ~25).

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

Most of our bulbs are fluorescent, but we still have one regular incandescent bulb and a halogen bulb.Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

I'm not sure I believe that 50-100 number.
In my house I've got... approximately 35ish? I'm not there right now, so I can't go around and count each one.Click here if you're having trouble sleeping.

I live in a town house, which probably counts as small, too. I can't imagine why one would need a hundred sockets, though, in even a moderately sized single-family home.Click here if you're having trouble sleeping.

7 fluorescents
3 incandescents (1 three way, and one placing holding a dead socket)
1 halogen

Drake Tungsten shows how backwards he is by thinking these are some kind of major new breakthrough...
I've been using these for about a decade now in all the places I've lived - interestingly the ones I bought back in 1997 are all still in working order! (though I only use those old models as spares (one day I might need one!), or in places like the basement because they take a while to get going!)
What amazes me about the dickheads who still are in denial about the antropogenic origins of global warming, is that most of the most immediate things an individual can do to help the environment actually save you significant amounts of money!!!
Adam Smith!
Given the saving you have already made to your pocket, I expect you will have cut down your carbon footprint by several tons per year!
DT, I suggest you start looking at all those energy efficiency websites - screw the environment, you'll be about to save $000's just by buying energy efficient lightbulbs, turning stuff off instead of leaving it on standy etc... Even you should be smart enough to realise what a no-brainer this is...
