Maybe you're just so generous that you let the frail, old and ugly people sit before you do, so it seems much worse?

Yeah, I know, you see a line of people and there must be thousands of them!

Again, you live in a big city. Not only that, you're living in downtown.

During rush hour, the TTC is crowded. Very crowded. Go take Go take a bus on Don Mills, Jane Street, Duffin Eglinton East or Lawrence East, etc, during rush hour. The bus will be packed. It will be caught in traffic, even with the bus lanes.

And if there's an accident on Eglinton between Yonge and Leslie, a dozen routes can get backed up.

Again, if you don't like it, leave. Or lobby to make a change.

GEE. I wonder what what I'm doing here is.

You've used the TTC five months, presumably one route to work. I was born and raised there, taking every different type of vehicle (including the old trolleybuses) at all different times on many routes. But, yeah, I can see how you're an expert.

          This guys stats seem right

Regular streetcar has 47 seats and a max capacity of 132, so that's roughly 1 to 2.

          If you got different info...

No, it's much worse. There's 2 seats on one side, 1 seat on the other, with about 5 people standing inbetween them. Then there's the doorway of the bus which is always filled with a dozen or so people pressing against the door, ditto for the middle door.

Considering you don't live here and I just took the thing a couple hours ago, I'd say I'm more current.

                That's max "comfortable" capacity...

It's a good place to collect and refine arguments that will be put forth later. Unfortunately my arguments were so good all I've got is you being really silly, which is probably the same thing the NDP will do when I bring it up...

Sure you can suicide prrof any given small area from jumpers but you cannot suicide proof the outside. The point I was making is that you are merely moving the location of where someone can successfully kill themselves. Perhaps thats all the transport companies can do -- "Please kill yourself elsewhere . . . doing it here disrupts the trains"

Riding a bike is suicide in downtown Toronto.

                        Those damned streetcar tracks too.

NO bike paths?? Riding the main streets of Calgary would be tough too but the bike paths get you out of the crazy roads

I don't recall these tracks -- Are they any different than an LRT track here-- cause I find those easy to travers as long as you cross them straight across

Not a single bike path near me, and the main streets are insanely busy full of terrible Toronto drivers. It's why I don't drive to work at all...

They're similar but there's way more and they crisscross all over.

I've never met anyone who is afraid of streetcar tracks, but they really scare you, eh.

Well, I just want to let you know that as one Torontonian to another Torontonian, I'm here for you buddy.

I think what you need to do is to get up close and personal with those tracks. Find a quiet stretch with no traffic, and reach out and touch a track. You might find it terrifying, but you can do it.

Next, get a bike with training wheels and ask your boyfriend to help you learn to ride over the rails. It'll just be a little bump, but again, you can conquer your fears.

And if that's all too much for you, see if there are other people with a phobia abour tracks. Maybe there's a terrified of tracks counselling group you can join.

Of you could pursue your dreams and develop a streetcar-free urban plan for Toronto. Get in touch with Kontiki. He was just short of getting a minor degree in urban planning which like makes him an expert on this sort of stuff.

I'm off to Thailand to hang out on the beach, but while I'm there, and you're freezing your butt off in your new home town, try to remember: streetcars are your friend.

                              • Well, they are not my friend. I briefly lived by Main Street station in East York. I really didn't appreciate the screeching all night long as they went around the terminus loop.
