Vet, I can't say that I relate. I work extremely fast. It leaves me with tons of time to fool around. I can't help it, but if I know what I'm doing, I complete it usually a lot faster then people in general do. And I have the time to go over it, to make sure no sloppy mistakes were made.

I'm sorry, that's the way it goes. So you say wasting time, I say what time? It's all I got. I even have a rule, if I spend more than 45 minutes in an exam, assuming I don't have to write 10 pages, I'm doing badly. I'll finish fast. I get my best results when I finish fast, I don't need to go over and think about stuff that I already know. So, usually I get out with the people who didn't do well, but got there to get the exam paper. I don't know what peo ple are thinking, trying to remember something for like 10 minutes before moving on. Their heads don't fuction. I can access my memory right away, 20 seconds the most, and I know if I can't remember it or that I don't know it. Sure, I can always try to give some BS answer, sometiems I try, but most of the times I don't have to. Because I knew the answer.

And no, I don't know everything. But I don't play around for an hour or so just to get on with the program. I move fast, bang, it's done. I can use a whole timeframe if I have to, for example when I give out presentations, I can make them last 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 50 minutes, 90 minutes, it doesn't matter. But I'll prepare that presentation fast. It's how I roll baby.

PH, all I'm saying is, that people who say 'well you are not being careful now' are usually people who are slow thinkers. Just because someone can't handle fast processing of information doesn't mean that others can't.

I don't understand how people have to figure out a long time if they remember something or not. They're not focusing. I try all my memory clue strategies right away, smell, colour, sound, visualization, every association, I'll bring out the big guns and simultaniously try to remember it. It works quickly, I can sort my memory out fast.

Well I work in a very similar manner, I can learn and develop far faster than most people and I can work faster. I don't really slack off though, it just means I do more stuff. I don't know why I do that, it's a compulsion. But that is just me!

PH, right.. but it also depends is there things you can do with that time, as in is there anything extra you can work with that is meaningful. If there is something, great. I don't find it exactly entertaining to sit around either. I'll do something, if there's work, then I'll do that and just do more during the day. If there's no work, I don't pretend to be working either. I'll just watch some porno or spend more time eating.

Though in my last job, I couldn't 'entertain myself' during work, it was extremely fast paced and rigid, but when I would score like extra 30 minutes, I'd just go and help out my buddies or so. Or spy on other people. Or do pranks. I love doing pranks, but like good spirited, nothing evil. Like forwarding other people's email, just because they left their station and forgot to lock up their computer. You know, be prepared man . Nah, not really, I never did that. That would be evil.

Some dudes were terrible though.. if they had like extra time, they went to chat up their employees. YOu know, it made them feel uncomfortable. I never did that. I chatted them up all the time, but I didn't invade their space. They want to be left alone too, you know, and don't want their boss to be there behind their backs. There was even this one dude, who shook up the hands of his employees every single morning. That was totally ****ed up.

WHy don't you go and **** yourself, or better yet, get out of this thread. It's a polite request. Get a clue, you're not wanted. You're the fat woman, who never leaves you alone in the bar when you just went to get a drink. Or the annoying little brother, dude, just stfu and go home. Here's a clue, I AM a software engineer, so maybe I do know about the importance of documenting stuff. Gather your things and just leave. Don't leave anything behind, because I'll throw them away.

Come where I work, talk to my boss for an hour about why you must document this *** in UML in Visio with the grid snapping at 2mm and producing a document which will be obsolete in two days, and whose target audience (another programmer) says he doesn't need nor want. Lose half a day writing the thing with my boss in your back explaining he doesn't understand or wants more detail here and there you must use title 4 because title 3 is too messy and there you must snap that on the grid.
Then, become mad and kill my boss.
Please.
You can even avoid wasting time and start killing him immediately if you like.

LDiCesare, I'm sorry man ... that would be the place where I'd definitely go madly insane.

It's like this other guy who I know who said he always has to be the 'secretary' in meetings, taking notes and then making a document out of them, and his boss ALWAYS checks it out and fixes it 'don't say it like that' etc etc . And he takes the most notes, so in other words, why don't he just do it himself then?
