      In no particular order...

      Aliens
      The Terminator
      T2
Forbidden Planet (The ID! Yes Ming!)
      Total Recall
      The Time Machine (In technicolor)
The Thing (Kurt Russel version was scarier)
      Planet of the Apes
      2001
      ST2

Many, many other notables - most from the sixties.

And yes, the Ice Pirates and Spaceballs were good, but not serious enough to make it.

I will only give top 5:
                      Gattaca
                      The Matrix
                      Contact
                      2001: A Space Odyssey
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

This is top five only because I don't consider movies like SW, Terminator and Aliens to be science fiction.
                      Quendelie axan!

Oy, I forgot about Gattica, and didn't even think about Eternal Sunshine as a science fiction film; they would both be on my list (bumping The Fly and Mad Max).

The science fiction element is not the main one in those movies. Terminator is more action than sci-fi. The same goes for Aliens wich is action, horror sci-fi but the sci-fi is not the most important one.

Now that I hink about it Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind might not be considered sci-fi by the above criteria
