It is indeed close among the two, but Pirates had the far better cinematography (some of those shots were just brilliant) and the better lead, by quite a bit (Depp >>> Fraiser). Though the Mummy had the better female lead (Weisz > Knightly) and the better villian (Imoteph > Barbosa/Norrington).

Though Depp and the scenery wins it for me. And I thought the story for PotC was pretty good, while the Mummy's wasn't all that great.

And the fact is that I'm far more interested in the story of PotC trilogy (as we move to the final movie) than I was for before the Scorpion King came out.

Fraiser did a good job in the Mummy. It's true that Depp's Capt'n Jack trumps him, but it's not because O'Connell sucks. The reverse is true for the women leads, though.

The Mummy should have been a once 'n done film. Pirates... we'll see. If the final one is good, ok, one can accept the weak 2nd film (Temple of Doom, anyone?).

Ehh... Weisz is definately hotter than Knightly, but as for the better actress, I may have to go with a tie here. Knightly was very good in her role in PotC.

          Yes she was.

They were both good movies. Which I prefer probably depends on my mood, they're that close IMO.

The Mummy movies were pretty crappy.

I give a clear win to Pirates.

Depp was indeed great in PotC, but the for rest of the cast, esp. all those secondary characters I think The Mummy was better. For example I highly enjoyed watching that guy who played the brother of the Weisz character or that little traitor who became Imhotep's minion.

                    Pirates. It's not even close.

So I'm still waiting for the ultimate pirates movie (could be cool without fantasy stuff though).

But Renny Harlin already did done do it... with his usual subtlety and attention to mise en scene and development of character.
