      "virtuous female" archetype of Indian tradition holds her committed husband as a God, so this adds to the ambiguity of the song.
      Blech. One hopes, at least, that the achetypal husband holds his wife as a goddess?

                Being put on a pedestal sucks quite a bit as well. At least to anybody who won't kick the other in the teeth.

                  Even though in theory husband and wife are on pedestals which are sky-high, that didn't prevent laws being formed which took the ground reality into account.
