  • What type of song is this?

    Only you are my world,
    Such is my love,
    Such is my love

If I do not find a place at your feet,
    Then my life is meaningless,
    Such is my love,
    Such is my love

    You are my respected,
    Your are my self-respect,
    You are my worship,
You are the focus of my meditation,
You are the object and I the worshipper,
    To you I am given,
    I sing only your praises,
I sing only the praises of your qualities,
    Only you are my world,
    Such is my love,
    Such is my love

    You are in my heartbeats,
You are (in)/(the possessor of) my mind and body,
    You are in my breaths,
    You are in my eyes,
If you are, then the garland (of flowers) shines,
If you are, then the garland smells sweet,
Without you I find no life,
    Only you are my world,
    Such is my love,
    Such is my love

If I do not find a place at your feet,
    Then my life is meaningless,
    Such is my love,
    Such is my love
The language is a bit strained and unnatural in some places, because I've done a very hasty and crude job of translating this from Hindi, but it's good enough.

Is this a love song, directed at a lover, or a song expressing love to some God?

Could be religious, but at first glance I'd put it in the romantic category.

      Indian Hair Metal?

("worship" and "meditation" make it sound like it's God though.)

If it's not a song loving some sort of God, then they're asking for trouble debasing themselves like that.

            A bad one?

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

                  What's debasing about it?

It's just a woman addressing her lover who she has has taken as her idol/ideal. The "virtuous female" archetype of Indian tradition holds her committed husband as a God, so this adds to the ambiguity of the song.

It's a very hasty and very, very crude translation of Hindi song. I couldn't capture even a single one of the finer nuances of the thing, but tried to preserve the ambiguity as much as possible.

In case anyone wants a link to the original song, in Hindi (it's actually a movie song, but the lyrics are still ambiguous): http://up1file.com/minifile/254320

It's a good song, quite fast, with a catchy beat, and quite well sung by Sunidhi Chauhan.

This legality of this is as ambiguous as the lyrics, so I'll remove the link if some mod objects.

What's the connection between equal rights and the song? Women have equal rights here, too. So?
