Never say you got fired. The majority of places don't contact past employers unless a security clearance is involved.

Don't worry about an interview you "fail". Take it as practice.

I'm... 5/5 on interviews? Always got the job when I got the interview. YAAY!

Anyway Zoid, when you need to fix something, don't say you don't do drugs, or you're not an alcoholic. Also, it's not a good idea to mention you've been fired twice, unless they ask. Seriously .

Don't give them reasons NOT to hire you, unless you can't avoid it (this is, don't lie).

Did you tell the interviwer that fact?

Sloww, Pekka. The only reason I said that I got fired was because she kept bugging me about references from these two employers. And she said that they called past employers sometimes, just to check. So i thought I'd preempt the bad reference I'd get from these employers...

Right. Did you admit you had tried some pot some years back as well? Did you say you don't always tell the truth? What's wrong with you man? You pre-empted your chances getting the job. I don't encourage you to lie, in fact you should not lie when you're getting a job, but unless they ask you, ..

AND WHY do you carry references of jobs you had you got fired from?!

If you have a bad job in your past employment history, you could always fail to list it. If its short-term or far enough back, they moght not notice the time gap.

The other option if you list it and they want info is to say that you reported to one person that has moved on so there is no one left there that can speak to your skills. If you held a lower level job, this might even be true

I've listed all my stuff in the CV. Perhaps I should've left some bits out. God knows it's full of long stretches of unemployment anyway...

Yeah, I am sure you remember the dismissal from Novartis Grimsby which I posted about in late 2003. I certainly do not mention that even though it wasn't my fault (in fact reason for the dismissal was never given, I was just ushered off site very quickly). Why would I? When asked why it could just sound like I have sour grapes over it. The duration of that position is so short I see no benefit in mentioning it.

                      Sounds like sour grapes, PH.

A LOT of employers are very very careful not to say too much bad about prior employees. If you were lower level at a bigger jobsite and didn't provide the name of your direct super, I don't know that I like their chances to get the real information on you.

Some will share but if they don't know anything, I doubt you could get many people to pull up a personnel file for some anonymous stranger on the phone .

Besides Zoid, I thought it was impossible to sack someone in Sweden? You could go on an axe rampage and still not be sacked

Those long stretches may be worrying to an employer in and of itself. They have to be thinking "why cannot this person get and hold a job.?

Do you have any longer stretches of employement on there? Do you have good reasons for long stretches not working?
