  • After getting deffective merchandise they simply return it for a credit. I used to deal with the lowlifes who would bring stuff like that in.

I've forgotten what the specifics are. Usually the creeps who tried that were caught and were simply told they couldnt bring it back. Sometimes even scum can catch a break or two and get over. I suppose if it is something they can brag about and feel superior about, then it might be worth it. Thankfully though all of us here at poly have much more interesting lives and would never have to brag about something as trashy as that

    • Really? So the Wal-Mart staff who handled your deception at each step of the way were working for free, were they?
No, they were doing their job. You saying that I defrauded them out of their time is like saying anyone who goes into a store with no intention of making a purchase is defrauding any employee they talk to out of their time, which is clearly silly. Not only that, but in my case I DID end up spending money in the store.

Namely the belief that they were replacing an Ipod you bought from Wal-Mart.
That's not the belief at all. All retailers have lax Christmas return policies to make things easier for consumers. If their intent was that ONLY products purchased from their specific company could be returned/exchanged without a receipt, then it seems unlikely they would allow no receipt returns. Just because Walmart's return policy is year round isn't my problem, nor is it my problem that Walmart's return policy is even laxer than any other retailer's policy.

Here's a suggestion, Floydie. Since you're so rock-solid convinced that this isn't fraud, toddle off to your nearest police station and make a signed statement exactly as you've described here, adding "but since this isn't fraud there's nothing you can do about it. MWAR HAR HAR HAR HAR!!".
They can't do anything about it, because it isn't fraud.

            • What is really trashy is that he came on here bragging about it like it's some great accomplishment to steal something then spend the rest of the thread trying to justify it.

                • But go ahead, don't address the actual points I make. Go ahead and direct responses at me personally, and make sure to sprinkle in plenty of assumptions and ignorance regarding a business about which I probably know far more than you.

There's an extremely good reason for that policy, particularly where generic electronic goods are concerned. A store exchanging those without receipts will instantly become the local "fence" for all the neighbourhood thieves and muggers.

It certainly is silly, but as people are under no obligation to purchase anything there is no fraud. It doesn't change the fact that I was actually pointing out that your claim that Wal-Mart suffered no loss is undoubtedly false. The administrative costs of dealing with the return are the loss.

I repeat the question- who was paying Wal-Mart's staff dealing the return you made under deception?

So what? That's a common tactic used by fraudsters and money launderers. Do you think the fact that you handed over some money in connection with an upgrade made you return not fraudulent? Think again.

Try asking them. Try saying "Hey! I didn't buy this from you and it's well outside the return period, but I want you to exchange it anyway, sirrah!"

I suspect you firmly believe they wouldn't, and that's why you chose the hustle instead.
