Well, Pekka...I support you. You may not have much to negotiate with but you've certainly got gutts. And that could be confused as confidence. If I've learnt anything in North America, it's that confidence can take you a long way. So you never know...your sweet deal might come through. If not right now, maybe sometime in the future - say perhaps after you find your way to grad school. Either way, the deal is sweet and worth dreaming about.

I'm also a PhD student getting paid ('research position") for studying abroad...

Janaki, sure. I realized they really do want me to do the job, so hey.. let's see how far they're ready to go.

Lul Thyme, nice! But of course the difference in my case is, I'm not a PhD student. So I'm getting all the benefits of that now, and also 'guaranteed' PhD spot, so I don't think I'd have to even apply. The one thing I want to lock here is to study abroad for at least a year, plus maybe add some passion project here. Try to see if I have a passion project and just see how much I can stuff there, before they'll say ok this is not doable anymore and we really can't promise you anytihng.

Until then, they have to help me with my vision for the future.
