1. The AQ niks came and went as they pleased. A bunch of unarmed villagers were not going to change that.

2. Dropping bombs or shooting rockets at a village that is mostly composed out of very rudimentary buildings... Hmm what do you think happened to the locals?

And again, why if you know where they guys are, why not drop a sniper ? Clean (i.e. no civilian deads) and good riddance... but indeed, a higher risk.

If they are the low level martyr types certainly they will come and go where and when they please alongst most villagers. However, if indeed it was AQ leadership they would be profoundly stupid to go anywhere the population was hostile.

There are huge prices on these guys heads and the leadership doesn't like to martyr themselves.

these guys tend to have protection around them (probably whom most of the other deaders were) you cant just drop a single sniper. You have to drop a unit. By the time you do that the guys skedaddled.

It seems like it was a very well organized and coordinated campaign. Ethiopia invades after recieving several years of training and military assistance from the US, Kenya moves it's army north to seal its border with Somalia so that the Islamists can't get away, Ethiopia herds the Islamists into a pocket while the US (who moved an additional aircraft carrier battle group to the horn of Africa just for this operation) bombs the **** out of the Islamists. It's a good mission but I doubt it will have lasting effect unless the Islamists are shot instead of just being allowed to go home where they'll just do the same thing again in the future.
