As far as I can tell, there's little difference.
That leaves personality preference. For one thing, I think it's admirable that Obama has been forthright on his personal experiences in living.
It beats Hell out of "But I didn't inhale".

Btw, how's your Notre Dame vs. LSU prediction looking now, Tex?

I'd have to look. To me, I thought it would be the best Bowl game. If I picked Notre Dame, I screwed the pooch.

Not only did you pick, ND, you said you'd be "brash" and Notre Dame would destroy LSU!

I quoted your hilarious statement in the college football thread.

First I would point out that you assume I'm all conservative. I've said many times I'm a moderate independent.
                  That clears it up...

Actually, my elderly mother is Goldwater conservative and my sister is quite liberal and they both like Obama. Maybe cuz his mother was from Kansas... Or is that someone else? His dad is Kenyan and mom is Kansan I think. No, because he voted against invading Iraq, thats why they like him. Thats what Obama and Hillary will be fighting over, she voted for the invasion.

Actualy he wasn't yet in the Senate when that was voted on, at the time he was campaigning for his current seat and spoke out against the war.

Think what you want. They don't pay me to get your approval. It's not a big deal to me.

The white working-class folks like SlowwHand and Lamcer make up 55% of American voters. For eons, they were in the camp of the Democrats, who were as a result, unassailable in Congress.

Then they were abandoned by the Dems, who when off on their Quixotic quest to help the impoverished and minorities. As a result, they because "Reagan Democrats," switching over to the Republicans.

However, the lot of white working-class folks has not gotten any better under the Republicans. They got little of the tax cuts. while their employers closed up and moved overseas or stayed here and cut health benefits and pensions. Gas price gouging, escalating health care costs, etc. have gutted their wallets. They've become disillusioned with the Republican's ill-fated invasion of Iraq.

As a result, the huge group is up for grabs again.

Obama is steering a centrist course (remember his keynote speech at the Democratic convention?), and he has bona fide anti-war credentials. I'm not surprised to find he is a magnet for these folks.

If "they" make up 55% of the electorate, and if "they" all switched to the GOP under Reagan, then, together with the old GOP (at least 30% of the electorate) the GOP should have gotten like 85% of the vote. Note, even in 1984 Reagan only got 60% of the vote. Clearly theres something missing in your analysis.
