I tell you something though, I will be glad when smoking is stopped from pubs in July as the **** things kill my throat and chest. However, as Laz once stated, what awful smells are going to replace those of cigarette smoke?

I'm in the process of trying to quit again. We'll see how it goes this time (grrrr). Of course, it doesn't help that the folks at Natural American Spirit sent me a $10 gift certificate/coupon for cigarettes. The coupon is sitting in my jacket pocket right now tempting me and mocking me. I feel like Jason listening to the Sirens, only I don't have the benefit of being strapped to the mast.
**** you, marketers! *shakes fist*

Like Laz, I quit last year. I had been steadily cutting down until I was down to 1/2 a pack (10 cigs) per week. Given that, I too didn't have any *physical* addiction left. I did, however, have a psychological addiction.
I've broken that now. I had a total of 3 lapses in 2006:
1) A concert at which I was under the influence of something else ands stupidly had 2 cigs
2) A good friend's bachelor party
3) A good friend's "last hurrah" weekend before his daughter was born and he too had to quit.
The first one was dumb and I regret. The other two, bah. Isolated events that aren't going to happen again.
What I was most worried about turned out to be overblown: the alcohol factor. I had a strong association between boozerini and smoking. I have now broken that, and it wasn't actually that hard.

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.
