Your statements suggesting his death was just.
Frankly, I'm not faulting you for having any enjoyment out of it, I'm faulting you for refusing to admit it. Sloww's got the right idea--yes, it's sad that we take some amount of joy at another's demise, no matter how horrible the person was.
It's the human condition, and we humans are a terribly meager race.
I dont think it would prevent people from killing, but it would prevent them from killing people in the future. If you put them to death, there is no chance they can kill again. Even in prison they could kill again.
Ah, so you see the death penalty not as a deterrent against other people, which is bollocks, frankly, but as a method of prevention for repeat offenders. In that case, we have no disagreement, though again, I myself cannot support it. This does not stop others from engaging in such practices, however.
The death penalty is not the deterrent . Y'all need to get past that.
Death penalty, now follow this, is the penalty.
The law is the deterrent "If you do this thing, this will be the penalty."

Know why this wasn't topped? Complaints over Hussein hanging.

That picture is bizarre. Leather jackets? Ski masks? For a moment I thought the execution had been outsourced to bank-robbers.
I take as Biblical reason. You need someone to enforce the law.
But thats your interpretation, the Bible doesn't say government has God's blessing because government is necessary.
As for execution of Jesus, even he said this:
quote:
Pay back Caesar's things to Caesar, but God's things to God.
Mark 12:17
So even Jesus knew that govnerments have power to tax, and also enforce the law.
No, its a recognition that his followers will be tortured and killed if they dont pay taxes to the Romans. The notion that Jesus endorsed the moral authority of the 2 governments that put him to death begs the question why the people putting him to death needed God's forgiveness... According to you the governments that put Jesus to death had both his and God's blessing...
Their are also many examples in the Bible where God used people and governments that did not worship God to punish people who doing bad things or carry out his will. The same thing happens with Governments, they punish evil people on behalf of God when they really punish criminals.
Did "God" endorse those immoral governments when they did evil?
Hanging. Topped. It's up there, hanging.
Sorry, Echy. I should have been a little less dry, I guess.

Well when I read Romans 12:1-4 that is my understanding, that some kind of government is needed to keep order and punish criminals.

Well Jesus had to die, it was even fortold in the Bible. But Jesus comited no crime when he was put to death. So both the Romans (that allowed the execution) and the Jewish religous leaders that put Jesus to death where doing wrong. Just because God gave governments the authority to enforce the law, no where does it say they have the right to abuse the rights of the people they govern.
