RIP. He was a decent guy and was lucky to have a very long life.

While I think he was a good man, I don't think much of Ford as a president. For what the people thought of him, all you have to see is that he almost lost to Reagan in the Republican primaries and did lose to Carter, who was a complete unknown at the time. The left will always remember the Pardon. The right his stupid F.I.N. gardens and his willful loss of Vietnam.

I think it says something about you that you thought a comparison to Nixon was about Bush

The media uses many of the same spin words ("imperial", "reclusive", "dishonest") for both Bush 2 and Nixon. It was a dig at both adminstrations...

And actually, Ford was from Michigan.

Ford was born in Omaha, NE.

So? He grew up in Grand Rapids, MI. He was a congressman from MI. Far more relevant than where he was born and lived for less than 2.5yrs.

I was just trying to point out that while Ford was doomed to grow up in a ****hole, he wasn't born in one...

[q=rah]But you're probably right. He had to know the pardon was going to cost him any future career in politics, which was the top reason why I had to respect him. He did what he thought was right regardless of what it would cost him in the future. Anyone that looks at his life as a whole can't deny that he was basically a good man.[/q]

Yep... it's also why he won his Profile in Courage award. He knew it'd cost him, but he felt it was the right thing to do.

                    Nice pic indeed, Winston.

Where did Nixon go into exile?

I'm sick of all the profile in courage, healing crap. It's a bunch of soft-hearted crap from righties and from lefty journalists, it just shows that the biggest chubby in their lives was Woodward and Bernstein, which has grown to a mythos. I remember lots more about Ford: SALT talks, start of the Sadat/Begin talks, Mayaguez, cutting inflation, 76 campaign, etc.

And they say the left is paranoid!

Who's being paranoid? After years of the media using words like "imperial", "reclusive" and "dishonest" to describe the Bush administration, it's pretty reasonable to assume they're talking about the Bush administration when they use those words...

You are... and you are only digging yourself a deeper hole; "reasonable to assume" .

It is amusing that you think words that clearly applied to Nixon describe Bush well (though I don't recall many using reclusive to describe the administration... secretive is a good bit different than reclusive).

You've been talking to Kidicious lately? Or that guy who thinks 9/11 was staged by the government?

It is hard to over estimate his crimes. He was by far the most criminal President we ever had so he deserves to be remembered as a criminal.

He went back home to Southern California.
